Nordic Walking

Telford

Discover the peaceful pastime of Nordic Walking, a traditional pole walking technique, with a friendly group who love being in the great outdoors.

During these sessions, funded by Lingen Davies Cancer Fund as part of its Wellbeing Programme, you can enjoy the benefits of exercise and wellbeing with a community of likeminded people.

This activity is delivered through six sessions over four weeks, led by WALX with CoreVision – a Shropshire based walking and outdoors fitness group offering a wide variety of WALX and fitness sessions in the beautiful Shropshire countryside.

Location: Telford Town Park

Dates:

1st week – 16th June and 19th June

2nd week  – 23rd June

3rd week – 30th June

4th week – 7th July and 10th July.

Timings: Walks start at 10am

General Advice for Nordic Walking

1. You will need to wear either walking boots, walking shoes or Terrain Trainers which are supportive and have a good grip and tread. This is essential for Health and Safety and insurance purposes and if not adhered to you will not be able to participate.

2. You should wear appropriate clothing for the weather conditions. The instructor has the right to refuse participation in the session if clothing is not appropriate for safety reasons.

3. Being a small ruck sack to carry a bottle of water, healthy snack, waterproof jacket, mobile and money and/or credit card.

4. If you are taking any medication please bring if you may need it, e.g. an inhaler, insulin, GTN spray etc.

5. Handbags and shoulder bags are not allowed as you need to be hands free. They could hinder your movement and could be dangerous to you and others. Please note there is no secure storage available and the instructor and other participants will not take responsibility for your personnel possessions.

6. To attend the Nordic Walking sessions, you will need to be able to walk two miles independently on a regular basis or with support from a carer.

7. If you have a carer or support worker, they are welcome to come and support you (there will be no charge for the support person).

8. We will meet up at the Telford Town Park Visitor Centre at 10am for the first session. This may change throughout the program, but your instructor will let you know about where we will meet next week (this will still be within Telford Town Park).

9. We always stop for a tea or coffee at the end of the session which can be purchased at the park Cafe, or you can bring your own. This gives us time to catch up, make friends and discuss the next week’s walks and activities.

10. Take away drinks to consume during the session are not allowed due to health and safety and insurance purposes. We will be stopping for regular water hydration stops throughout the sessions.

11. Please adhere to the park’s terms and conditions of use.

12. Recreational drugs, smoking, vaping or alcohol should not be consumed before or during the program sessions, for health, safety and insurance purposes. Anyone believed to be under the influence of recreational drugs or alcohol will not be permitted to participate.
