Understanding Your Cancer Journey – your chance to have your say

We’re partnering with NHS Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin (NHS STW), once again to seek thoughts and opinions on local cancer services from those in our community.

We jointly hosted the Understanding Your Cancer Journey event at Telford Football Club last November, to give people the opportunity to get involved in the conversation to help improve local cancer care. We are now preparing for the upcoming session which will be held at Shrewsbury Town Football Club on Thursday, 20th March from 9.30am to 3.30pm.

The event is for anybody who has received a cancer diagnosis or treatment in the last three years, as well as those who have supported somebody through their cancer journey. During the event, people will be encouraged to engage in discussions focused on personal experiences in a supportive environment.

Naomi Atkin from Lingen Davies, said: “We are delighted to be partnering with NHS STW once again, giving members of our community a chance to have their voices heard and discuss their experiences of living with cancer. We gained valuable insights from the Telford event, and will use these, along with feedback from the upcoming Shropshire event to inform the future of our support services and grant making.”

Loraine Mahachi, Senior Quality Lead for the NHS Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin Cancer Transformation Programme, said: “We had such a great turnout at the event in Telford last November despite the unpredicted snowfall on the day. It was incredible to see how many people battled the bad weather to come along and take the time to tell us about their personal stories.

“This event aims to give people who couldn’t make that event, the chance to still share their experiences to help shape improvements to cancer care in the county. All this valuable insight is being used to inform our future plans,” she added.

If you attended the Telford event you do not need to attend this event. A follow-up event is planned for later in the summer to discuss the findings of these two events and provide further opportunity to assist in shaping the services.
