Marj has been raising funds for Lingen Davies since becoming involved in the original Cobalt Appeal in 1979. A friend of charity founder Bernard Lingen’s daughter, Marj was involved in events in and around her home village of Bomere Heath and this has led to many years of volunteering and fundraising.
Some years later, Marj began volunteering at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital when her husband was having treatment for Lymphoma, and through this she met the former Lingen Davies Fundraising Manager Eryl Williams. Eryl encouraged her to get involved with the charity and as well as all her fundraising work, Marj is now one of our regular office volunteers. She also volunteers every week in the Chemotherapy Day Centre, so she is certainly doing her bit!
Marj has organised a huge range of fundraising activities to support our appeals; her favourite of which were Christmas lunches for up to 200 people at Bomere Heath each year. She is keen to point out that these projects could not have happened without the support of her friends and neighbours, who have been a great support in organising and attending her events. Her most recent success was “An Evening with the Land Girls”, a fabulous 1940’s themed evening which was a brilliant event and raised £1560.
Over the years, Marj has seen a number of friends and family members undergoing cancer treatment, including her husband, and most recently her daughter Karen. This has spurred her on to keep fundraising, and we are very grateful for her amazing efforts to raise thousands of pounds for the charity.
Organising your own fundraising event, in aid of Lingen Davies, is a wonderful way to support the charity and contribute to funding our projects – like Marj has. Our friendly team are happy to help with providing posters, tickets and flyers, as well as promoting your event on our website and social media channels.
Fundraising events could include a bake sale, charity ball, themed evening, tractor run, 24hr ‘athon’ of your favourite hobby, music event…this list is endless! Get in contact to discuss your ideas and we’ll help however we can.
