Pedal the Borders raises over £25,000!!

Wow, wow, wow! Our inaugural Pedal the Borders 100km cycling event has raised more than £25,000 which will go directly towards funding improvements to cancer care for local patients.

100 keen cyclists took part in the event on Sunday, which was hailed a rousing success by organisers and participants alike. Entries are already open for next year’s event which will again be organised by Alan Lewis and his team from Adrenaline Sporting Events on behalf of the Lingen Davies Cancer Fund.

Our headline sponsors for the event, Aico in Oswestry, kindly let us use their headquarters as a base, and cyclists made the journey out to Lake Vyrnwy and back, through the borders, to enjoy refreshments and a well-deserved rest at the end!

Pedal the Borders was created by Mark Harris – managing director of the Business Company and husband of last year’s Shropshire High Sheriff, Dean Harris. A keen cyclist himself Mark used the sport to help him remain active while going through his own cancer treatment in 2014-2015. Mark spoke to the entrants at the start line and was met with a rapturous round of applause.

Lizzy Coleman, Lingen Davies’ Events Officer, said it was absolutely wonderful to see so many people supporting our inaugural Pedal the Borders challenge and there has already been some amazing feedback.

“We’re all so pleased that we can finally organise events again and to see 100 riders taking part, along with their own supporters, and our team of volunteers was just fantastic.

“We’ve raised around £25,000 already which is phenomenal and we know there’s still more to come in. On behalf of everybody on the team I would like to say a massive thank you to those who took part, and those who’ve sponsored them.

“Thanks too to Alan for organising the event, everyone at Aico for their support, The Business Company, Craven Dunnill, Rix Petroleum, Brooks Cycles, and Yarrington Ltd who have all given us their support.

“Next year’s Pedal the Borders is taking place on Sunday, 17th July, entries are already open through our website and we are already planning an even bigger and better event for everyone!”

Lingen Davies Cancer Fund is the only charity committed to supporting active cancer treatment for people in Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin, and Mid Wales.
