Emma has joined our volunteering team

Hi, I’m Emma, I’m 43 and live in Shrewsbury.

I started volunteering for Lingen Davies in the summer of 2022. I’ve a busy job in the NHS, managing national quality improvement programmes to support staff to deliver better care and outcomes for patients, mainly with a focus on older people with frailty.

My Mum was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 48 and passed away when she was just 52, in November 2006. As you can imagine, this had a massive impact on me and my family, but above all we were so grateful for all the care and kindness that she received during her illness and treatment.

I’m passionate about people having a positive experience throughout their care pathway, so, putting all of this together, it seemed a natural progression to volunteer at Lingen Davies, helping with fundraising for the Cancer Centre, my small contribution to helping deliver top quality care for people and their families in Shropshire & Mid Wales, throughout their cancer journey.

Outside of work and volunteering, I’ve a range of interests including attending regular HIIT training classes, and jogging (very slowly!). I’ve taken part in a number of 10km races, building up to a possible half marathon in the future! I’ve also a keen interest in the paranormal and supernatural so you can normally find me reading ghost books, watching ghost hunting TV shows and listening to spooky podcasts, with a few spiritual development classes thrown in for good measure. I moved into my new house a year ago so I’m also getting into gardening and have for the first time this summer grown tomatoes, courgettes, peas, carrots, potatoes and a pumpkin (with varying degrees of success)!!

I’m very much looking forward to continuing my volunteering with Lingen and to helping out at upcoming charity events and in the fundraising office with the team.
