Corporate news: Networking On Two Wheels – a fresh take on business networking raising awareness of cancer.

Groups of people at businesses across Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin, and Mid Wales have been increasing corporate connections, raising awareness about cancer, and getting fit at the same time.

Networking On Two Wheels (NOTW) sees people from businesses across the region take to their bike to discuss subjects from how their companies can work together to the way cancer has affected lives.

In the first year of its existence 50 people were involved and it’s even led to some charity cycling challenges which have helped raise vital funds for those living with cancer as well as awareness about it.

It was introduced by Helen Knight, Head of Fundraising for Lingen Davies, after a similar scheme was introduced by legal firm Aaron and Partners in Cheshire. The Shropshire group has grown to be a much anticipated monthly event with large numbers taking to the streets on two wheels.

Helen said: “The first Networking on Two Wheels event took place in September 2022 and whilst we were very excited to introduce it and knew there would be a lot of people interested, we are regularly amazed by how big it has got and just how many people take part.

“Networking is a very important part of any business and we came up with the idea of networking with a difference in order to increase awareness and conversations about cancer – those conversations don’t have to happen at the networking but they often naturally do.

“It is talking about cancer that will help to beat it and this event is clearly encouraging just that.

“You don’t have to be really fit and you don’t have to have been affected by cancer, anyone from any business across Shropshire can join in and it is mainly about having a good time – it often rains but that doesn’t dampen spirits!”

NOTW starts from a different local business on the last Wednesday of each month (weather dependent) and includes a ride of around 30 miles, with a halfway stop for coffee and cake. It takes place in different areas of the county each time and a different business sponsors the ride each month, buying the coffee and cake for everyone.
