“Kick Cancer” launches in Ludlow

Shrewsbury Town in the Community and Lingen Davies Cancer Fund are teaming up once again to bring the “Kick Cancer” project to Ludlow this spring.
“Kick Cancer” is a multi-sport programme helping those living with or recovering from Cancer in our community. It runs in 10-week programmes and the next one will be launching at Ludlow Football Stadium on Thursday 21st March. It will run every Thursday for 10 weeks, 10am-12pm. The programme is free of charge and the team are looking for people to take part now.
The sessions will consist of different group exercise sessions followed by social sessions that encourage participants to get to know each other in an informal environment. This is the second programme being run in 2019, following a series of sessions in Shrewsbury that is already up and running.
The “Kick Cancer” participants have been very positive about the programme so far, with one member of the group saying “The physical activity is the best part; it’s great to be outside for the sessions. I would love to come back to the next programme that runs”. Another participant commented that “This programme has helped me to regain my confidence and helped with my fitness”.
Speaking of the programme, Naomi Atkin, Chief Executive Officer at Lingen Davies, said
“It’s great to see Kick Cancer being expanded to the south of the county. At Lingen Davies we are keen to see people accessing support closer to home, within their own communities. Our rural region is beautiful but does present challenges in accessing services due to the sparse population and long travel times to central hubs. We recognise this and are committed to doing our part to make life easier for people with cancer in Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin, and Mid Wales.”
“Physical activity can be really beneficial to people during and after their cancer treatment, and this is a great opportunity for people in our community to get back to fitness or try out a new activity to help their recovery.”
