For our third ‘Meet The Team’ blog we’re heading over to the fundraising team to speak to our passionate Community Fundraiser Angela Hill about her role with us, and her responsibilities as Chair of the voluntary Shrewsbury Fundraising Committee for Lingen Davies.
How long have you worked at Lingen Davies?
“I’ve worked at Lingen Davies Cancer Support for over four years, and those years have flown! I started by working in the operations team as Admin Assistant but moved over to the fundraising team in October 2024 to become a Community Fundraiser which was an obvious transition for me.
“My time as Chair on the Shrewsbury Fundraising Committee means I often spend a lot of my spare time outside of work raising money for the charity. It never stops, and that’s the way I like it!”
What does a typical day in the office look like?
“Every day is different, but usually my day involves lots of telephone and in-person conversations with our lovely supporters who want to raise money for Lingen Davies. Engaging with them about their chosen event and assisting them to organise and arrange it is a big part of my role.”
What is your favourite part about working on this team?
“The engagement with our patients and supporters is second to none. These are real people who are going through a cancer journey, and I love that part of my role is to help put them at ease, or to talk to them about their desire to raise funds or donate to us.
“Also, seeing the success of our fundraising events and finding out the total raised is a wonderful feeling.”
When you were a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
“I wanted to work in a bank, which funnily enough I did eventually come to do!”
What was your very first job?
“I was a Legal Secretary, which was a great grounding and a role I stayed in for 10 years.
“It gave me key skills to start my career and helped me gain confidence straight from Secretarial College.”
What is the best piece of professional advice you’ve ever received?
“Be yourself and your personality will shine through!”
Tell us something people might not know about you.
“At weekends and during springtime I put on my wellies, boilersuit, and lippy to help out on the family farm.
“I usually help during the lambing season, assisting the little new lambs into this world. It’s so rewarding being outside in the fresh air and supporting my brother and niece at one of the busiest times of the year.”
