Telford & Wrekin Council has pledged £250,000 to support Lingen Davies’ Sunflower Appeal to help grow cancer services across our region with the creation of a new cancer centre at Princess Royal Hospital in Telford.
From 1 April, every pound donated to the Sunflower Appeal will be doubled until the full £250,000 match funding pot is unlocked, meaning supporters can have twice the impact with every donation.
The Sunflower Appeal aims to raise £5million towards the development of a new cancer centre at the Princess Royal Hospital in Telford, scheduled to open in 2029. This new facility will significantly expand cancer care locally, doubling chemotherapy capacity and providing dedicated urology, lung, and outpatient clinics.
These new services will sit alongside the existing provision at the Lingen Davies Cancer Centre at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital, ensuring more patients can access timely, high-quality care closer to home.
Naomi Atkin, CEO of Lingen Davies, encourages supporters to get involved: “I urge our supporters and the wider community to stand with us during this crucial time for the Sunflower Appeal. With match‑funding available from 1st April, every pound you give has double the impact, helping us reach more people, sooner. I encourage everyone to get their thinking caps on and ask themselves: What can I do to help our community?
“Whether you donate online or send a cheque to our fundraising office, your support truly matters. Together, we can make an extraordinary difference.”
Donations to the Sunflower Appeal can be made online here or by posting a cheque to the Lingen Davies fundraising office. (Please note, we kindly ask you not to send cash.)
Your support will help us grow cancer care for everyone in our community, today, and for generations to come.
