Celebrating World Radiotherapy Awareness Day

It’s been over a year since we helped bring Surface Guided Radiotherapy Technology (SGRT) to Shropshire – where has the time gone?

Our investment made the Lingen Davies Cancer Centre at Royal Shrewsbury Hospital the 18th trust nationwide to adopt this advanced technology.

As part of our aim to ensure everyone in our community has access to excellent cancer care locally, we were delighted to have the opportunity to help bring this technology to the region.

What are the benefits of SGRT?

We know that SGRT has a hugely positive emotional and mental impact on cancer patients as it removes the need for permanent skin-tracking tattoos which often come with a constant reminder of their cancer diagnosis, as well as improving the accuracy and speed of treatment.

So, what’s new?

The first cancer patient was recently treated by a new LINAC machine at Royal Shrewsbury Hospital which is equipped with Surface Guided Radiotherapy Technology. The new machine also features a six degree-of-freedom couch which benefits patient positioning, another item funded by us.

This addition to the region’s cancer treatment options was funded thanks to a generous donation to us from Telford Plaza Ltd.
