“Kick Cancer” re-launches for 2019!

Following a successful pilot project in 2018, Shrewsbury Town in the Community and Lingen Davies Cancer Fund are teaming up again to help local people to “Kick Cancer”.

Kick Cancer is a multi-sport programme helping those living with or recovering from Cancer in our community. It will run in four, 10-week phases throughout 2019, from STITC’s bases in Shrewsbury and Ludlow.

The programme is looking to recruit people from Shropshire, Telford and Mid Wales onto the first 10-week programme which will start on 28th January, running every Monday 11am-1pm.

The sessions will consist of different group exercise sessions followed by social sessions both held at The Community Hub at Shrewsbury Town Football Club.

Speaking of the programme, Naomi Atkin, Chief Executive Officer at Lingen Davies, said

“It’s great to see our pilot project has been so successful and this is now being rolled out through 2019. We are really keen to welcome new participants onto the programme and support as many people as possible to get involved.”

“Physical activity can be really beneficial to people during and after their cancer treatment, and this is a great opportunity for people in our community to get back to fitness or try out a new activity to help their recovery.”

“This project will be funded from our £1.25 million 40th Anniversary Appeal, which aims to support people throughout their experience of cancer. We are committed to supporting early diagnoses, excellent treatment and improved wellbeing during and after cancer.”

Mark Bull, of Shrewsbury Town in the Community, added “Kick Cancer is a fantastic opportunity for participants to engage socially and to increase their physical activity to support their recovery. After delivering on the Kick Cancer programme last April and seeing the impact it had, I’m looking forward to build on that success and see more people taking part”
